Symbols & Colours

This windsock is made of a bold blue and yellow combination. The blue and yellow colour scheme comes from the traditional coat of arms used by various authorities and bodies that have administered County Durham through the ages. Inspired by the rampant blue lion and gold shield.

History of the Flag

The County Durham Flag is a community flag, created to showcase the unique identity of the English county. The design of the flag is heavily inspired by the St. Cuthbert’s cross. Shown counter-changed horizontally between the County Durham colours of blue and yellow.

The flag was chosen by a public vote, following a competition to design a flag for the county, in 2013.
