The design is derived from arms attributed to locally celebrated ruler Hwfa ap Cynddelw who lived during the 12th century and is said to have been the prince of Wales steward. He was also the founder of one of the 15 Tribes of North Wales and a large portion of the population claim to be descendants from him.
The Anglesey County Flag shows 3 yellow lions on a red background with a yellow chevron between them. This is in reference to the coat of arms. As an island, the county identifies very strongly with the flag and are proud of their home.
