The flag of Tiree

The flag of Tiree resembles a sun and is made up of sunrays of barley. The ears represent the richness of the land as it is the most fertile in the Hebrides. This sunburst pattern evokes Tiree’s reputation as the sunshine isle. This new official flag of Tiree was unveiled in September of 2018 and was designed by Donald Cameron following a competition.

History of the isle of Tiree

Tiree is the most Westernly island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The island is most well known for being highly fertile, crofting, and attracts a lot of tourists every year. In Gaelic ‘Tiree’ means the land of corn. Adding to this, the island is popular for windsurfers and is sometimes even referred to as the ‘Hawaii of the North’. On that note, a surfing event called ‘the Tiree World Surfing event’ is hosted there which attracts surfers globally.

The Isle of Tiree is located in the Inner Hebrides and its nearest neighbour is Coll. The climate is pleasant and the waters are warm. In fact, the island rarely experiences snow or freezing temperatures and this is why it is also branded the ‘Sunshine Island of the North’.
