History of the Progress Pride flag

The Progress Pride flag was designed in June 2018 by Daniel Quasar. Daniel is a non-binary artist and graphic designer. This flag incorporates elements of both the Philadelphia flag and the trans pride flag. This flag symbolises inclusion and progress within the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, as soon as the flag was designed, it went viral on social media, sparking global media coverage.

This variation of the typical pride flag includes a chevron along the end that features black, brown, light blue, pink and white stripes. The Progress Pride flag incorporates and represents additional communities such as people living with HIV/Aids, people of colour and trans individuals. Moreover, the arrow shows the progression for these communities. However, the left positioning indicates that progress is still to be made for this community.

Adding to this, the flag is also representative of individuals of the LGBTQ+ community that are no longer with us.

Growing popularity of the flag

The pandemic led to a shift in thinking and focus on helping vulnerable groups. In 2020 a growing number of the pride community worldwide started using the Progress Flag as their symbol for the pride community. This flag increases the representation of sexuality, gender and race in the pride community. On that note, this flag is rising in popularity and is increasingly being adopted by the LGBTQ+ community.
