History of the Flag of Suffolk

Buy this Suffolk flag from our online store today. This flag is a community flag and depicts a yellow crown with crossed arrows on a blue backdrop. This emblem is representative of St Edmund, the king of East Anglia how was murdered by the Vikings in 869. This flag is also referred to as a “Banner of Arms”.

The flag was used extensively and supported by 21st-century organisations who called for it to be made official. The first variation of the flag of Suffolk was created in July 1954. However, the flag was only registered officially with the flag institute in 2017.  Furthermore, the first official flag was displayed on the first Suffolk Day in 2017.

Suffolk Day takes place every year and is a county-wide celebration to recognise historic icons, attractions, landscapes and other special events. In fact, this event usually takes place on the 21 of June. On that note, the day consists of everything from guided walks through historical landmarks, live broadcasts and even treasure hunts. Not only is the day educational for adults but it also proves to get children interested in the history of the county. Adding to this, the day attracts tourism from the whole of the UK.
