- Vexillology: The study of flags is called vexillology, derived from the Latin word vexillum, meaning a type of Roman flag or banner.
- Oldest National Flag: Denmark’s National Flag, the Dannebrog, is the world’s oldest national flag and is still in use to this day. It was officially adopted in 1219.
- Meaning of Colours: The colours on most flags have symbolic meanings. For example, in the U.S Flag, Red is for valour and bravery, White is purity and innocence and Blue is vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
- The World’s Most Common Flag Design: The tricolor (three stripes or sections) is the most common flag design, seen in flags like Italy, France and Ireland.
